The forest analogy dosn't work for me but if you are trying to say thet you like your candidates because you think they are independent, good for you. I am not yet convinced. No candidate has been to my door. None of the four candidates has spoken independently in the advertiser or in the literature. If they don't stop acting like clinging vines, I'm not voting for any of them.
This post is rather unlike others found on this blog. This post is very partisan and because of that, this blog has taken a turn down the political path. I am not Republican or Democrat. I have 2 votes and one is reserved for Mary Ann Matters and that is not changing. Deb DiMartino I am not pledged to as of yet. Cheryl Vallee has some qualities I do like. She runs a non-profit and has business budget and management experience. That carries weight. To blindly vote for a party simply because they are on your party's line OR is your best friend, such as certain people voting for Deb because you are buddies with Defruscio is so very wrong and hurts the taxpayers. Learn about the candidates, encourage a debate, encourage a FRP from EACH candidate. Make the candidates EARN your vote by making them show they are independent of the Chairman (Defruscio or Malone). We need independent Board members. Not being a member of Team Langley, and by default Team Defruscio, I am not inclined to vote for someone that will blindly follow Langley. Langley has shown no backbone, no leadership so why that self-serving Supervisor deserves Board members that will blindly support him is beyond comprehension. If I am correct on who authored this post...shame on you Sir! Stop jumping to the beat of Defruscio's drum! Stop stumping for him through the back door! Gadfly----please return to the posts of facts regarding the state of our Town and our Tax dollars. That is what your blog is known for and that what many of us are grateful to you for; your "just the facts"~!
Dear 5:41 PM: Thank you for your well thought out post. I wish the Gadfly had posted this as his "Guest" post My feelings are very similar to yours. When the two major party leaders (Defruscio and Malone) are so profoundly corrupt that they are unable to govern for the benefit of the people voters must make their decisions very carefully and after much deliberation. I personally know two of the candidates running for Town Board, one from each party. As it stands now, I plan to vote for each of those candidates based on my personal knowledge of their temperament , professional experience and outstanding personal qualities. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to post.
If you think Mary Ann is a "blind follower" of anyone, you don't know Mary Ann. The suggestion that Deb and Mary Ann will be "controlled" by Langley or DeFruscio is really chauvinistic. Re-read the material in the Advertiser.
The stuff that is on the Agenda tonight is a sign that the reform efforts some of us have made over the last few years have made their mark, and the Dems have decided to attempt to adopt them at the 11th hour.
Yes, Ginny O'Brien was honored for years of service to the Town. It was her last meeting as a board member. The Ethics Law passed (most recent version). Confusion about Budget with a new proposal from Dems. That did not meet with any protest from Reps, just a simple no vote. Another inappropriate display from Ed Gilbert. There was also a Bruen controversy. Seemed like the type of thing that will soon be fixed. If not, we will most likely be discussing it here soon enough.
Agreed: But why didn't Supervisor Langley speak up and defend his proposed budget and/or speak against the Malone budget? Very mysterious! Is it possible Langley discovered his own budget proposal was out of balance. I'd like to hear something of substance from him about this. All we heard from his Administration last night were his Deputy Supervisor's inaccurate legal and personal opinions regarding Ginny O'Brien's sleeping arrangements. Pretty creepy.
I think she had the right. If someone thought otherwise, that person should have registered a legal protest it probably would have been addressed quickly, much like Rick Matters requested a quick decision and received it.
There was the latest Ed Gilbert immature hissy fit, which finally brought Supervisor Langley out of his torpor long enough for him to finally tell Mr.Gilbert "we've heard enough, please sit down."
Isn't Sue Mangold the Liason to Bruen Rescue? Why would she allow our town be left without proper emergency coverage? Doesn't she understand the importance of emergency response time?
She may or may not understand the importance of emergency coverage, but she probably has no idea what is going on at Bruen, as did any of the liason's to Bruen.
Why does Phil Malone want to fire Sue McCarthy? She has been a tremendous help part time in our assessors office. Is he going to fire Amy Walsh to, because her brother is best friends with Chris DeFruscio?
Sue McCarthy was one of the select group of insiders who had previously retired from her full time Town Assessor position and was rehired by the Board Majority as a "consultant." I hate to say it, but I'm with Malone on that one. Amy Walsh is a terrific employee and I don't think she and current Town Assessor Brad Canning need any more "help" from Sue McCarthy. Brad Canning is also doing an excellent job.
5:06 PM I am surprised at that. Who is in charge of Bruen Rescue? With the taxes I am paying, that is the last thing I should be worrying about. I can see law suits on the horizon.
Here's a question for you.....Bruen is an independent contractor which has a "special" relationship with the Town via the Ambulance District which is the Town Board. The District gives the contractor (Bruen) a no-bid, single source contract year after year (which has never been audited). The District submits a budget, submitted by Bruen to the Town Board - which is included in the Town Budget and includes the tax levy for Town residents. Since Bruen is a Town contractor, and not an entity of Town operations, can the Town tell Bruen what else it might want to do?
Some time ago, the OSC said that the Ambulance District should be operated as a Department of the Town. The recommendation has not been followed to date. Might that be the origin of the current issue?
Phil Malone said tax increases are fine and went on to bash a very respected and loved former Supervisor Bob Angelini, for not raising taxes. Rest in peace Bob, you were our hero.
I would just like to thank Ginny O'Brien for her last vote to increase taxes on the hard working people of East Greenbush. We will be sure to make sure your careless action follows you right to north Greenbush.
Why would Phil Malone care about raising our taxes, he doesn't pay any. He still lives with his Mommy and Daddy. What a joke !!
Remember Ginny O'Brien and Phil Malone when you vote is a couple of weeks.
Our town needs change. The old ways of doing things advocated by O'Brien and Malone have put the town right where it is today - teetering on the brink of fiscal collapse. Thanks for nothing Ginny, Phil and you, too Sue Mangold.
We need positive change. It is as simple as that. I am voting for Matters and DiMartino so that we at least have a shot at change.
@ 8:22 AM: Unfortunately, it's quite possible voters will be thinking of Ed Gilbert as well when they cast their ballots. I'm beginning to consider the possibility that there might be a hint of political sabotage within the Langley/DeFruscio camp directed at Mary Ann Matters. I'm hearing that there are concerns that if she is elected that Langley and DeFruscio won't be able to completelycontrol her when they plan to steer public works contracts to their political cronies such as PCS. This makes me want to vote for Mary Ann Matters even more. She has my vote on election day.
Anyone think it is totally ironic that Phil Malone got a job with the company that did the useless and fiancially stupid solar prjojects at the DPW and waste treatment plant at the EXACT same time that Malone got a job with Monolith solar?
And why do I call those projects "financially stupid"? Because a former controller defined the return on investment at 22 years !
Sure, let's all trust Phi Malone a little more. i am sure he makes objective, fact based decisions when it comes to his brother and mother working for the town! Give me a break !

Did anything worth while happen at the town board meeting last night?
ReplyDeleteYes, Ginny O'Brien was honored for years of service to the Town. It was her last meeting as a board member. The Ethics Law passed (most recent version). There is no confusion on the Democrat budget. Phil Malone wants to raise our taxes again this year.
DeletePhil Malone also wants to fire Brad Canning and Sue McCarthy

Brad Canning was reappointed to a six-year term Wednesday night
DeleteDid Ginny have the gall to sit on the board at the meeting last night?
ReplyDeleteI think she had the right. If someone thought otherwise, that person should have registered a legal protest it probably would have been addressed quickly, much like Rick Matters requested a quick decision and received it.

ReplyDeleteI think Sue Mangold let Bruen make a deal with Castleton without considering the safety of the residents of East Greenbush.

The Chairperson of Bruen's Board of Directors is Patty Mulberry & the Director of Administration is Daniel Glick
