Next Wednesday evening at the Town Board Meeting, the Resolution "inviting" casino developers to Thompson Hill in East Greenbush will be RESCINDED!!! This last year and a half has been quite an experience and has resulted in a "sea-change" in our little town. Our community came together and went up against a collection of very powerful, connected, well funded and arrogant elements. Think about this list of opponents who conspired to dump that "thing" on the Hill without consulting the population....... Churchill Downs, Feathers and his buddies in Albany, County wheeler-dealers, East Greenbush wheeler-dealers, Morgan Hook and SKDKnickerbocker. Feel free to add to the list. Had it not been for a united community effort in education and mobilizing neighbors, putting together the presentation to the Location Board and a brilliant attorney - Jeff Meyer - we'd be getting rolled like that little town in Seneca County. And a way of life and a bright future would have been lost forever.
Be sure to attend the Board meeting next Wednesday at 7:00pm and see history made.
Also, coming on March 12th is what will hopefully be the last Save East Greenbush fundraising event to clean-up the last of the legal bill. Stay tuned for details. Dinner, jazz, silent auction.......
How refreshing that we finally have a Town Board that listens and delivers for the people of our Town. It's wonderful to know that the DeFruscio Langley monarchy is finally over.
ReplyDeleteAnd let's not forget the biggest conspirators-- The previous Town Board, which voted UNANIMOUSLY to invite the casino developers to our town--
ReplyDeleteThank you JTT for restoring sanity to our Town Board.
The Bible says in 1 Samuel 17:10, ...the Philistine (Goliath) said, give me a man and let us fight each other. The people of SEG (David) responded, even though he was discouraged to do so. How arrogant Goliath (all our town boards) boasted, wearing his mighty armor (power of the vote), and the backing of the Philistine Army (those mentioned by the Gadfly). Google the story, there are so many parallels to the SEG fight against our town boards. In essence David (SEG) said, bring it on.... Of course, this is just my take on the the Bibical account, and what SEG had to endur. I see Jeff Meyer representing the stone that struck down Goliath, and the new town board is the sword that was taken from Goliath. The resolution this Wed. will be David's final act as he severs the head of Goliath. Much more could be said, but I will make it brief. Thank you SEG for the willingness to fight this battle in the face of an amazing strong opposition. Gadfly, I believe we are the right side of history on this one. SEG stood up for that they believed in and paid a hefty price in many ways. I will never forget what transpired, as will the many others who were involved in the good fight. As TRUTH said, we don't know the power we have. It sure looks like we do now. Thank you Gadfly and Truth. Kansas is becoming a distant memory...
ReplyDeleteA very refreshing Board meeting tonight. Standing room only. A video will be up on East Greenbush Truth just as soon as I can get the recording to the blogmaster.
ReplyDeleteThank you gadfly, can't wait to see the video. Sorry I couldn't make it, and I actually had time tonight. Forgot it was Wednesday it feels like a Tuesday. Glad to hear so many made it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful feeling to see a professionally run meeting after all these years.
ReplyDeleteMy compliments to Jack, Tina, Tom, Deb and Mary Ann.
It's great to see our Town Board working together for all the people of East Greenbush.
Thats all any of us wanted; PEACE after all of these years of bickering, hating, fighting............the children are gone and the adults are back! AMEN ! Now we can actually say "Can't we all just get along?" with truth to it. Thank you JTT, Mary Ann and Debbie.
ReplyDeleteNo one should be surprised that Jack and his team are learning things that have been hidden from the good people of our town.
ReplyDeleteWe were lied to about the town's credit rating.
We were lied to about the status and results of the past audits.
We were lied to about the inter fund borrowing payback.
Heaven only knows how lies have been told about development and developers. Worse yet, how many lies were told about the casino debacle?
Jack and his team have been handed a mess. A huge mess. The mess goes back many years. Who is to blame no longer matters all that much. What matters now is quality information, informed decision making, openness and transparency and making things right.
We can every confidence in Jack and his team to do all those things and more.
Ed Gilbert and his little blog are nothing but a part of the dark, sad past.
11:22 a.m. He's not going away but he seems to be hanging on by his fingertips. It's all gone but when will he realize it? Hopefully soon.

Just wish Keith Langley was there Wed night to watch a properly run board meeting; he would have instantly realized the error of his ways. Jack presided over his first board meeting like he had been doing it for years...love the gavel! He was confidant, poised, and professional, a natural in the job. He handled the two complainers like they were putty in his hands. Tom Grant always brings comic relief at that crucial moment when it's needed. They all seem to work well together. What a pleasure to see.
ReplyDeleteKen Crowe was at the board meeting last night but there was no coverage of the rescindment of the casino resolution in the TU today. What a big disappointment. I thought it might have been front page news.
ReplyDelete9:41 p.m. Me, too! I got up Thursday morning and headed right for the mailbox for the paper. I flipped through every page TWICE but found nothing! After all the drama and especially the toppling of two major parties, I thought the board's action would be big news. This must be why they are called the Times Useless.
Delete6:31 AM, The big news is the people of EG finally have a functioning Town Board, thanks to the election of Jack, Tina and Tom on November 3rd. The people of EG made the right decision on election day. The road ahead will be difficult, but we are now headed in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteUnlike some others, Jack, Tina and Tom aren't all about press clippings and self promoting media stunts. They ARE all about putting their shoulders to the wheel and working hard to improve our town.
