Milestones and Watersheds

It's been quite a ride over the last few years. We're coming up on the anniversary of the Casino Location Board deciding to NOT locate a casino in East Greenbush. December 17th is the date, and we're going to celebrate with a Save East Greenbush party and fundraiser. I'd call that date a milestone. A watershed is the fallout of that decision and the community activity which led up to it – the election of the East Greenbush First majority to the Supe job and the Town Board. Both political machines which had “run” East Greenbush in concert for a long time were turned out to pasture in a landslide. They're still trying to figure out what happened.

Save East Greenbush still has a balance on the legal bill to Meyer and Fuller. They made a great case even in the face of a major “fix” attempted by the players with the Zoning Board. What was important is that the community saw the extent to which the political pressure was exerted. Instead of asking the ZBA attorney for guidance, they asked the Building Inspector for an interpretation of the law. Good Grief.

The citizens of East Greenbush should be abundantly proud of the accomplishments of the last year. Some of the efforts started years ago. But the recent victories are pleasant. Now we have the last bills to pay. (The Players who visited this plague upon us should be contributing, but they won't.) The payoff is that the insider trading which once went on won't happen anymore. No more illegal Plat approvals, no more road paving for insiders…….no more stipends and illegal “incentives.”

  1. Gadfly, it is not surprising that those who caused this financial misery, won't pony up to help pay for it. Simply put, they are unconscionable. We have a town supervisor who is collecting the remainder of his $70,000 salary this year but who hasn't effectively shown up to work since he lost election on Nov 3rd. He takes no responsibility for losing his job, so why would he take responsibility for causing the debt to the law firm that saved us from the fate of a casino? When you are dealing with unconscionable people, expect nothing and never be disappointed. We can do this without them and happily. How much is left on the debt?

  2. Speaking of casinos, I just finished reading Pete Stenson's article on p. 5 of the 12/10 Advertiser. He stated that CP DiMartino first voted no to extend the Witbeck PDD, then at the special meeting afterward she changed her mind and voted yes "citing the comments of numerous supporters who approached her after the extention failed at the 10/18 meeting." OMG! Really? This should infuriate all of us beyond belief! We could not get her to budge on her two yes votes for the casino no matter how many residents in the hall howled, cried and begged, yes begged, her to vote no. Really, Pete? You're quoting the economist John Maynard Keyes in her defense, stating "When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do?" When the facts changed irrefutably against casinos as economic drivers, she STILL voted yes, yes, yes til the end. No one could get through to her but for a lousy PDD she gets shaken up enough to change her mind? That is THE MOST infuriating thing I've heard to date. Casino yes. PDD no, ooops, I mean yes because some people in the hall are upset? OUTRAGEOUS!

    1. You have to remember our opinions did not matter. THis was a Witbeck PDD. Deb must of heard from residents with the right last names. We didn't matter. You should be upset. THat PDD will put too many houses in that area. Hope you don't live over there because she won't hear you if you complain guaranteed.

  4. The simple reality is that the Whitnecks and Harts get whatever they want. Other people get smaller "favors". We have a sitting town judge who never got building permits for two different large projects. But that judge has a famous town name too. Toni Murphy KNOWS the stipends she received were illegal - meaning the theft of citizens' money. But she has no intention, ever, of making that right.

Sue Hart Mangold openly and often violated her conflict of interest duties.

The previous town board was caught in violation of the open meetings law.

Jeez it goes on and on in terms of our terribly sad history.

January 1 is a new day. A wonderful new day.

  5. Unacceptable! PDD approvals effect the whole town. We should know why CP Matters voted no for the extension, why CP DiMartino voted no with her and then changed her mind a few days later and voted yes OR was this just a simple case of one more shot of closed door politics in East Greenbush (before the new administration comes in) that also mysteriously involved our MIA supervisor? I'm betting on the latter.

  6. Now that a reform Board has won in a landslide and joined Mary Ann and Deb who originally ran on a reform agenda until they were hijacked by DeF (see the Advertiser publications before that election), Talks and Eddie's blog have taken off in an attempt to make the new administration somehow focused on the casino battle. What jerks. I thought at least Pete knew better - the rest who run that blog, not so sure. There's just a lot of bitterness in both camps which we'll have to live with for a while. They should have seen it coming, but when the sense of "entitlement" set in with the machines some time ago, learning from the "signs of the times" becomes impaired.

    ReplyDelete
  7. They're just livid because the "casino battle" handed the town over to the good guys on a sterling silver platter! What's ironic (look it up, Chris) is that Langley and his juvenile delinquents were warned over and over that they were treading on paper thin ice, but did they listen? No! They looked at us like we were a bunch of kooks, they laughed at us, mocked us, bullied us, and scorned us all the way to 11/3 when the bullies got sand kicked in their faces big time! Let them rant and rave and blog their fool heads off. They blew it and they blew it BIG for many years to come...and they damn well know it! Ha! Merry Christmas to US! Whoohoo!

    1. Well you're certainly right about what the casino battle accomplished. Langley was pro (and the lowest vote getter) and his running mates said nothing discernible on the matter and scored low. DVW, Stenson and Smyth said nothing discernible on the matter either and scored low. The landslide went to those who took a stand and clearly identified with the spirit of the community. The victory went to those who listened and led. Merry Christmas to us!!!

  8. Pete is a fraud. On the face of it, he seems like a good natured, mature adult but he's really just a frustrated, bored former bureaucrat who can't seem to settle into anything productive in his retirement years. He's very deceiving. If he used his talents for good and stopped sneaking around incognito on the Talks blog, he'd be a lot better off and so would the town. He's fooling no one.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Let's not blame it all on Pete. The Principals of that blog are an EG Cop, the treasurer of DVW's campaign who got himself kicked off of the TU blog for trying to use it to further DVW's campaign, DVW and Stenson. So there is a collection of goons to choose from to attribute the trash.

    2. 7:38 p.m. True, Pete isn't working alone, just like Don isn't working alone, but at least Don is cool enough to identify himself. The Talks/EGMatterss principles are a bunch of two-faced phantoms of the night. They are one way in public (except for Ed Gilbert, who is always the same) especially when they are running for public office, and another way in the dark shadow of the blog. That's why I said they're fooling no one. By attacking Don and Suzanne so openly, these individuals particularly, and we all know who they are, are foolishly showing their hand and revealing to everyone how utterly frustrated, angry, and powerless they have become in the wake of the new incoming regime. They can blame anyone they want but these well known takers brought it all on themselves over a period of years. After 12/31, however, our hard earned tax dollars are no longer available for tapping into like public assistance and the hangers on will just have to let go. The gravy train is pulling into the station, it's about out of gas, and about to be put in dry dock for at least the next FOUR YEARS. That's an eternity in the parasitic world of politics. Oh, happy day!

  9. Great article by Fred LeBrun in today's TU. Here's the link, but I think you have to be a subscriber to get to it. It's worth it to go get the paper.

    http://www.timesunion.com/tuplus-local/article/LeBrun-Attitude-of-entitlement-in-Skelos-case-6694550.php

    Here's a "teaser"......

"The convictions of former Senate majority leader Dean Skelos and son on charges of corruption came as no particular surprise.

Shock, yes, by how quickly and definitively the verdict was delivered, coupled as it was with the similar abrupt conviction of former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver two weeks ago.

A jarring conclusion to the Skelos trial, but not a surprise.

How could it be? As the trial unfolded, we heard tale after lurid tale of the most obvious extortion on behalf of junior, who showed a boundless appetite for less work and more money. Outrageous, really, all the while the senior Skelos maintained day after day they would be exonerated because he believed in our justice system, right up to the moment of conviction.

The thought that kept recurring to me was, how clueless are these people?

I suppose ultimately that proved to be the most disorienting, chilling, aspect of the Skelos revelations, how utterly matter-of-fact, business-as-usual, they felt about their totally out-of-bounds behavior.

They exhibited an arrogant and grotesque sense of entitlement, boundless and without conscience, oblivious to any moral standards. The definition of what's wrong, and remains wrong, with the darker side of the Albany political culture."

  10. Dear Gadfly,
Thanks for posting. The sense of entitlement Mr. LeBrun writes about has been clearly felt at the local political level as well. The failure of the East Greenbush Republican Committee, to file multiple financial disclosure forms is just the latest clueless bad example.

  11. Gadfly, in our town's very recent past there are dozens of examples of political appointees for whom the less work; more money was a mantra.

I never, not one single time, ever went into town hall and found the former town attorney's secretary doing anything but gossiping with Toni Murphy. Never.

Sean Mulvey was renowned for failing as the payroll person. Could barely figure out how to walk and chew gum at the same time when it came to managing payroll administration.

That, by the way, is equal opportunity for each major political party.

We are all expecting much better starting on January 1.

  16. Mr. I'm On Vacation blew off the pre-board meeting last night, including the special meeting at 7:30. Because he didn't show up again, the reason for the special meeting failed for lack of a quorum. What does he care? The rumor circulating around town is that Mr. Vaca showed up to vote yes to extend the Witbeck PDD because the county wants any and all development, good or bad, and Mr. Vaca wants a county job. After all, he did sacrifice himself for the casino, right? Once again the county and Mr. Vaca are looking out for # 1...themselves! Let's see where he lands employment-wise after January.

They saved the day and E.G. Finally, score one for the good guys!

    3. They reward loyalty. The county bigwigs wanted that casino badly and if it landed in East Greenbush, they would have been perfectly fine with that. Even though he took a ton of heat for it, Langley never wavered in his support for the casino, he hung tough with his blank stares and snarky comments like "the resolution is the resolution." Now he's convinced himself and the county that he sacrificed his job for the casino when, in fact, he lost re-election because he was just really bad at his job. Hey, if the county wants some of that, they're welcome to it. Wrangler Rob Bayly was also a big proponent of the casino in EG. Maybe the county should earmark a job for him, too.

    2. 1:30 p.m. There are a lot of people who are not versed in local government but kudos for asking the question. Very few people realize this but it is at the local level that government effects us the most, especially in the pocketbook! The more people who take an active interest in local government, by watching, listening, and asking questions, the more likely politicians are to behave themselves. It's when no one is paying attention that we run into trouble. Town board meetings are the third Wednesday of every month, 7 p.m., at town hall. That's a great place to meet your local elected officials and see what goes into government at the local level.

  19. As expected, Supe Langley did not attend the last two town board meetings of his four year term. Residents commented tonight that they were disappointed, even a little sad, that he virtually disappeared after he lost re-election on Nov 3rd. It would have been impressive indeed if he showed up one more time tonight to say sorry it didnt work out, I truly did my best, thank you for electing me four years ago and giving me a chance to serve. That would have been the sort of closure everyone would have appreciated. Perhaps as he bumps into people all over town in the coming weeks, months and years, he'll say it then. Ed Gilbert's comments were actually civil tonight; at one point he even held his tongue when he clearly wanted to let loose a criticism. Maybe there's hope for him yet but that remains to be seen. Phil Malone rode off into the sunset. Hopefully, he'll find a path that will take him in an exciting, new direction.

Birds of a feather stick together, which is exactly why we need new talent at the county level in 2017. Danaher, cousin Leon, and Wrangler Rob proved that responsible, respectful government must be countywide to be truly beneficial to our town.

  22. Looks to me like the EG Reps took in over $20,000 and the Friends of Keith took in over $12,000, so between the two they had about $33,000 for the election. That's a big bunch more that EG1st had. And who got the landslide? Cash,if you have the wrong record to run on, doesn't necessarily work. Perhaps the days of the wheeler-dealers are over. 4. Gee, $1,000 from Feathers? That's not much admiration from a guy who's worth millions. Looks like that admiration he once felt for Keith turned into the more basic appreciation for his willingness to lay his own head down on the proverbial chopping block and then roll the dice. Had Keith decided to play it straight with everybody, and stay away from games of chance, he might still be supe on Jan 1 with Deb and Mary Ann by his side. Instead, he'll be cleaning out his desk alone. It's a shame.

  23. What's ironic is the only person who was truly looking out for Keith during the casino fiasco was Mary Ann (per Foiled meeting notes and her question about "protection from Keith"). Feather's responded that he's never walked away before and won't now. Well, where is Feather's now? How much did his money and weight pull for Keith? Where are Keith's silent majority. Keith, you chose to turn your back, publicly none-the-less, countless amount of times on the people that voted for you. Look at your donations, then look at EG1st. It wasn't funded by political goons or businesses seeking something in return. EG1st's campaign was backed by the full faith of the actual residents they will be serving. While you continue to sulk and ask how this happened, watch yourself during some of the meetings over the last year. Look at the disrespect you showed, between the eye rolling, the "let's move on from the casino" the day thousands who fought to correct your mess saw "victory" against greed and against our town being destroyed by the CASINO. Let's face it Keith, you will be known forever as "Casino Keith", and for your insightful "the resolution is the resolution" explanations. Rejoice this holiday season, you don't have to wonder anymore. Thankfully for the town of East Greenbush, we will have true leadership this new year. For that, we will be forever grateful you fueled the fire that became EG1st. You woke us up!

  24. If the county gives Keith Langley a job they had better be prepared for a no show no work person on the taxpayer's payroll. Langley's personal work ethic has always been close to zero. Since his staggering loss it is, hard to believe, even lower.

Since Election Day he has, very literally, been stealing the people's money with his cessation of working mentality. Shameful.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Langley was counting on voter disinterest and apathy to get him re-elected. He was told by his amateur advisors that a few "troublemakers," a very few, were making waves, even on blogs and in the newspaper, but that the majority of voters don't listen, pay attention or care about what's happening with local government. Even when two board members announced, "Smart Way Forward Not Meant To Be," in the Advertiser, he never waivered from his dismissive, obnoxious behavior. After all, the majority of residents wouldn't notice or care that they were lied to. Even when the casino was defeated in E.G., he figured politics, not residents, did that. None of the "troublemakers" were credited, we didn't exist in his mind. Then, November 3rd rolled around just as expected and the "troublemakers" rallied at the polling sites in numbers too great to ignore. He lost in a humiliating landslide of votes to one of those residents who was "not a factor" but did he learn anything from it? NOT ONE THING! He, no doubt, thought,'Fine, if they think I did such a bad job, then screw 'em! I'm outta here!' And in an instant he was gone, with his paycheck in hand, as quickly as he came. If the county would hire that caliber of person, then shame on them! It remains to be seen if they will be that shortsighted and foolish in 2016.

  27. Doncha think that the "fix" has been in since before the Constitutional amendment? The big money was behind that with Andy and his cronies. When you look at that fiasco going out out in Central New York, it becomes quite obvious. The Town Board out there says that there will be no significant environmental impact to paving over acres or pristine farmland - let alone no traffic impact. I'd say that somebody needs to follow the money out there. I did hear that everybody's money was on Rensselaer for the casino in our neighborhood, but some $100,000 contributions shifted that to Schenectady. Preet has the ability to follow the money if he wants to.

The critical thing at this juncture is for the five board members to do their utmost best to work TOGETHER to run the town. They won't always agree but working to reach a consensus that they all can support will be well worth the effort. They must not allow anyone or anything to drive a wedge between them. Make no mistake about it, the machines want back what they lost. Not only did they lose power and control over a town with a $20M budget, they were utterly humiliated in the process. They will have another shot in 2017 to infiltrate the board. We will, therefore, need to get two more good government candidates elected. It's not too early to start planning for Nov 2017. The work was not finished this November, it's only just begun. There's got to be an ongoing, relentless effort to KEEP what we won in November going strong.

He allowed an illegal "duplex" (with 4 kitchens) to be built on Thompson Hill Road so that certain insiders can feel like king of the hill. And for a number of years in a row, he lowered the assessment of his former residence on Werking Rd (see the assessment roll, publicly available through the town website). Does YOUR assessment get lower and lower each year, progressively dropping your school and property taxes? Mine doesn't. But our Building Inspector's does! 34. It fascinates me that the state and various locations are still considering casinos as some example of success.

Anyone been to Atlantic City lately? The city was a seaside ghetto before the casinos moved in. It continued to be a seaside ghetto after the casinos moved in. And today, as the casino industry collapses in on itself due to over expansion it is even more of a seaside ghetto.

I refer you to Salamanca, NY. Salamanca, NY is, sadly a rural ghetto. Was before the casino, still is with its casino.

We should all recall the glorious predictions of a $33 million financial impact from the building of the FedEx uglier than sin building in our town. Find me one of those dollars.

Supe Langley had every conceivable form of human resource around him to help him make the right decisions for the town but he was so mesmerized by money and power that he tossed all manner of common sense out the window and now he is looking for a new job. All he had to do was look to the people for a consensus of opinion (simple!). Had he done that, and a whole host of other things, like surround himself with good, smart people and treat them with respect, he may have won a second term.

    2. I agree 100 percent with both you 5:12AM.

Here is a question, that is quite funny, and I already know the answer.

Do you think if EG was awarded one of the casino's it would have saved Langley his job?

How funny would that have been he most likely would have still lost the election and we would be stuck with a casino

      Delete
    3. If Langley lost this badly in Nov despite the fact that we dodged the casino bullet, imagine how much he would have lost by if we GOT the casino. Jack got 47% of the vote. Had we GOT the casino, I think that he, Tina and Tom would have won by much higher margins. THAT'S the real irony. Langley was finished whether we GOT the casino or not.

  35. Not to get off topic but, there is a major problem with the sewers in August Gate.Sewage seems to be coming up out of the ground.Calls to the sewer dept.have proved to be useless with George Lovely stating that it is a homeowner issue.Calls to our super Anthony Corillis go unanswered,But he did e-mail a map of the sewer lines in the neighborhood. Somebody else from the sewer dept. said call A-Septic to repair the problem.
The town was paid $5,000 for each lot by the Micheals group to install and maintain these lines.
Homeowners are already stuck with maintaining their own sewage pumps and underground piping to the shutoff at the property line.
Why should the homeowner have to pay to repair the towns sewer line ??? Surely a lawsuit will follow if this is the case.
We need to be rid of personal like Anthony Corellis,George Lovely,Dan Fiacco, and Joe Cherribono,They all have a hand in this.

  36. Good morning to all, on this lovely Christmas Eve. I was just reflecting on the past year and a half after reading Mr. Langley's Supervisor's Report. I had to retract several comments to keep this post on a positive note. The year is coming to a close and a new beginning is just around the corner. For me, the true highlight of the past year and a half is getting to know many of my neighbors throughout EG., and a few from neighboring towns. We all came together in a big way through SEG and this past election cycle. I have a greater appreciation for where I live, because of getting to know more of the wonderful people who live here. Thank you Gadfly for your part in giving a voice to the people. Perhaps the new year would bring an identity to more of the voices. I love the Christmas Season and what it truly represents. Actually it never ends on Dec. 25. With that being said, my wish to everyone who takes the time to view this blog a Merry Christmas, and may we all share in a happy, prosperous new year.

  37. Every generation has had a great president.

For my grandparents it was FDR. For my parents it was JFK. For my generation is was Ronald Reagan.

For the people I'd East Greenbush it is about to be, I predict , my friend Jack Conway.

Jack is so many good things. Smart, caring, wise, experienced. Jack is inclusive not exclusive. Jack is engaging not reclusive.

All those years of fighting for reform. I confess to not missing NYS taxes and East Greenbush politics as my life has moved on. But i am so deeply thrilled to know that there is nothing but upside, nothing but positives, nothing but things being significantly better as Jack Conway and his team move into governing and supporting the good people of East Greenbhush.

Talk about Happy New Year? I cannot envision a more Happy New Year.

All the best to my dear friend, Jack Conway. And all the best to all our former friends and neighbors in East Greenbush.

  38. How exciting that the swearing in ceremony is in 5 days! How far we've come since the surprise attack special meeting when a Langley led town board tried to ram a full blown, Las Vegas style, gambling casino down our unsuspecting throats. The people were so upset, so panicked over the thought of it but Mr. Casino himself could not have cared less. He set his jaw on disregard and waited smugly, patiently for it to be over. On election night, he stood among the remaining hanger on-ers feeling powerful, feeling invincible, planning to thank no one (again) when he won. When the numbers came in they HAD TO BE wrong! How could this have happened, Mr. Casino thought, to ME, ME, ME??? Well, it DID happen and many are still scratching their heads over it. A new order has begun in the largest town in Rensselaer County. Take heed, all you unbelievers, take heed! And, oh, by the way, happy new year!

  40. Ed Gilbert, you are the ultimate coward and the ultimate hypocrite. Your blog is the untimate expression of your cowardess and your hypocrisy. Did you lose every element of class or decency when you hooked up with DeFruscio and Langley? Seriously did you?

I used to listen to you speak at town board meetings. Today you represent the exact same embodiment of evil as the Talks blog administrators. Great company you are keeping. Coward, hypocrite, fool.

  41. As we approach a new board in a new year to tackle old problems, it might be worth noting something that it seems almost all past board members forgot over time... the election is over!

When you are sworn in on January 1st, please remember everything you stood for, to everyone who voted for you to get you there. Forget the petty stuff, focus on our towns problems. Forgo politics for solutions and make the hard decisions that you were elected to make. You are free from any blame for past problems so do what needs to be done quickly so we can get to a point where we can heal.

Rest assured, the very people who supported you will rise up against you if you become what you are replacing. Just ask Keith Langley who followed right in Rick McCabe's footsteps. You're not above the law or better than the people you serve. Remember that and best of luck as you go to work fixing our town.

  42. Dear Mr. Gilbert - Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you. And now for a teaching moment. You have gone over the line many times with your Matters Blog but now you are going too far. Beware when you start accusing people of drug abuse etc, You are one step closer to being sued for libel. You have already admitted to many people that you are the author of that blog. It is very easy to confirm that fact. Before you accuse or insinuate that someone has a drug problem you had better be able to back it up with medical records. And no - I am not talking about someone speeding through a red light. You know very well who I am talking about. It would be a shame for you to be standing before a judge trying to weasel out of this one. And no - this is not Don Johnson speaking.

  43. Ed Gilbert, even for you this is a new low. You've really hit rock bottom. At least when you attacked Mary Ann she was a public official, even though you stooped to some pretty low lows with that one. Then you decide to bash DJ, who holds no position in town hall but at least he has blog (that's he's not a coward to admit to unlike yourself). But, unleashing a character assassination on a young man that you do not even know or know the full details is a sinking to a new low, I'm not sure you're getting out of this hole. What you don't even seem to understand that Tom the younger's actions have nothing to do with Tom the elder, our newly elected CP Grant is not the one who was arrested. Still, shame shame shame on you! I hope when you look into your daughters eyes you don't wish they meet a man like the one you have become.

  46. The sad thing is that it could have gone either way with Ed Gilbert. Remember the time when he was actually considered to be a Gadfly? His downfall was in hitching his wagon to Keith Langley, who never could do his own bidding. When he came to rely upon Ed to do his bidding for him, it was all downhill from there for both of them. For some reason that we may never understand, Ed decided to become Keith's loyal ba!! buster. Whether it's the EGM blog or making a damn fool of himself in a room full of people, Ed just can't seem to get out of his own way. His latest series of below-the-belt attacks on a respected family in town proves that he's off the beam like Ernest T. Bass (look him up, Ed). I renew my call to boycott his blog and not give him the satisfaction of a hit. A blog hit to Ed is like a sin to Satan...delightful!

  47. Gilbert is nothing more than a loutish, sad soul. Everyone encounters tragedies in their life, everyone encounters problems in their life. When someone revels in another's tragedies, problems and/or sadness it shows how truly vile and repulsive they really are. Those same people wonder why they receive no sympathy when tragedy finds its way to their world. We all have demons to deal with and to mock those with a family difficulty is horrible, simply horrible. Ed--you never fail to prove you are truly the lowest form of life and you never fail to prove you prey on a person's personal and private troubles, you never fail to prove you are an awful human being. Yet, people don't wish you any tragedy or sufferings to haggle with; they simply wish you would become a decent human being. Unfortunately people can't change what and who they are which means you will remain as disgusting as Voldemort. You sad, pathetic little man.
And now, Ed, you project your ugly temper tantrums on Carmella. You should see how many people support and agree with Carmella's statement which makes you look even more foolish and pitiful.
You are just a sad, pathetic little creature.

  48. I've been trying to figure out if there might be another motive behind the Gilbert diatribe. How about this.....perhaps he sees a necessity to create a diversion to what is bound to come out about the management "practices" of previous administrations. We're about to get an audit report from OSC which has to be less than complimentary, given the fact that the Town's financial situation has dropped below "junk" status. And there are still a lot of questions about what has been going on on Thompson Hill to be sorted out, and these go back a few years. I'd say diversion is certainly part of it.

    1. Right on, Gadfly! Those "diversions" you spoke of will start coming like a meteor shower on Jan 4 right after the organizational meeting. And yes, it's even starting now. Let's hope our new board members have thick skins...they are going to need it. It will be an immensely tough four years as the campaigns for 2017 & 2019 start now. Like the Gadfly suggested, this latest stuff has to be a diversionary tactic related to the machine skeletons which will no doubt be unearthed in the coming months.

  51. @AnonymousDecember 30, 2015 at 11:58 AM--You're right, it is true and, it is wrong to try and put a black eye on the official when the official is not involved. If it has nothing to do with the actual elected official, our tax dollars and/or the town, there is no need to spew it.
Bottom line--It is not an elected official, it has nothing to do with the town or town business and it doesn't touch our wallets so truly, why bothering regurgitating it all over a blog? The only reason Gilbert would do it is because he is vile and still embarrassed over the colossal beating Langley, Gilbert & Co. took in November. Gilbert truly is a nasty person.

  52. To Rensselaer county officials who may read this blog, please know and accept that times changed dramatically in East Greenbush on November 3rd and political thugs like Chris DeFruscio and Ed Gilbert contributed heavily to the fall of the two party system of government not only in E.G. but possibly in all of Rensselaer County in the near future. Once the residents of E.G. get a taste of the champagne quality of government that's coming, the beer belly Bobs they've been accustomed to just won't do anymore. If you have a prayer ever again of reinstalling yourselves in local government, you have to raise the bar on the quality and integrity of the people you endorse for office. The competition will be fierce and those just elected will be grooming others just like themselves to take their place. It's the 21st century and the electorate nationwide is tired of settling. For politicians it's becoming a case of DO or die. Keith Langley just realized it. Phil Malone threw in the towel and didn't even run because of the competition! That should tell you something. We can only hope you are paying attention.

MIKE POORASS (MAN) , What you did was a despicable display of POOR character and showed you as man who was desperate. We would like to wish you both a nice New Year. (NOT)"

Considering the source - which appears to be the combined efforts of Gilbert/DeFruscio - I consider their rejection to be a massive compliment. Fact is, Ray Mooney, Dwight Jenkins and I had a little bit to do with the unraveling of the last two corrupt administrations in this Town. Their minions just can't stand it. Thankfully, their egos got the best of them and they went way too far and fell of their own weight. All we needed to do was make public what they were up to. That's why I welcome the transparency pledge from the EG1st administration. I'm going to be interested in seeing how a preliminary plat for Thompson Way which had single family homes turned into a "quad-duplex" with four front doors without any intervening action from the Planning Board. We all should be interested in that question. I hope there is a good explanation. It's simple questions like that that make the authors of the Talks stuff apoplectic. (Look it up Chris.)

  60. Raybee, sorry, but you are way overcomplicating it. Instead of blaming Don and Mike, just blame Keith. The SWF alliance succeeded into office and then failed because Keith gave CPs Mary Ann and eventually Debbi the boot when they would not obey his commands. Yes, "OBEY." Instead of working with them to forge a productive, sustainable relationship, he sicced Ed Gilbert (lol!) on them and then everything fell apart. No worries, Commander Keith said, in all his brilliance, "I'll just form a new majority," yeah, with Democrats Phil and Sue. Now, the Republican controlled board majority is sick and dying and in May 2015 Sue resigned. The four person board is now badly divided. It's Keith (R) and Phil (D) against MA (R) and Deb (R) but, at any point in the year did Commander Keith decide to repair his near death majority? No. The Republicans had it in the palm of their hand, Raybee. Keith slapped it away and opened the door w-i-d-e for a now hugely frustrated and fed up third group of highly organized and intelligent candidates to enter the race. Just as Jack promised, they slaughtered Keith and mowed down everyone else in their path. Nov 3rd was a political Tsunamis. You have no one to blame but commander and chief Keith Langley for indescribably POOR judgement and leadership that brought down TWO major political parties in E.G. We ALL have Keith Langley to thank, however - THANK YOU, KEITH! - for this glorious, new day in the history of our town. Please join us in making 2016 the best year in the town's history.
Good luck Jack, Tina, Tom, Mary Ann and Deb. God bless you and God speed as you go to work to repair our sweet, struggling little town. Thank you for taking it on.

Although we may not agree with every decision the board makes, only time will tell if they were good or bad decisions. One thing is for sure, there are people out there who want this new board to fail. They will be watching, scrutinizing, and most assuredly criticizing just about everything they do. To the extent possible, those of us who support the new board need to insure that calmer heads prevail.

And it will.

  63. Yes, amazing turnout at today's swearing in ceremony of Supervisor Jack Conway, new board members Tom Grant and Tina Tierney, Town Clerk Kim Carlock and Recvr of Taxes Toni Murphy. County legislator Kelly Hoffman attended as did county judge Debra Young. Other county officials were conspicuously absent including Rob Bayly who sometimes attends town board meetings. Guess they are still trying to make sense of the election results. There were lots of pictures being taken, smiles, and refreshments after the ceremony. Monday's organizational meeting will kick off the first meeting for the new town board.

  64. Yes Eddie and Chris...almost 150 people showed up today at the swearing in for the new Board. You need to re-evaluate your reality testing. 66. The way I see it, the momentum for this new administration will only keep growing by the day. Eventually, people will realize that it's not enough to have intelligent, professional, honest officials at the local level, we need them at the county level, too. It was county folks who brought the casino project to Keith. There was nothing wrong with that per se; what was SO wrong about it was the devious way it was handled after that. When people see the way this new board, especially this new supervisor, conducts business, the McCabe/McLangley administrations will finally be fully exposed for the shams that they were and people will not be able to believe that we actually survived them. Suddenly, the sophomoric manifestos of the losers of the 11/3 election will become utterly intolerable to everyone, if they aren't already.

  67. Since 11/3, the EGM blog is on a verbal bloody rampage. No one is safe, nothing is off limits. They are even posting fully spelled out curse words, the four-letter kind. It's pretty gross. Just when we thought nothing could top the bitterness and acidity of the Talks bloggers, the EGM bloggers are the new winners; you and your families, neighbors and friends must be so proud of this distinction. For much better quality reading that isn't a pathetic waste of time, I'm sticking to this blog. I won't give the other two blogs the satisfaction of a "hit." It just fuels their raging fire.

Both you guys are proving that everything the Talks bloggers said about you have an awful lot of validity. That ought to be troubling to you both.

And last, but not least, if you cared about the town and not yourselves you would be looking to help make things better instead of spewing your hateful venom. Grow up. Man up.

Number two, JTT are each very thoughtful and knowledgeable people who will bring good ideas to the governmental table that will benefit BOTH the Town and the County.

  72. 3:46 p.m. I don't understand. You don't think Langley is similarly "toxic?" I find that hard to believe. He has been the head stooge for the past two years, maybe longer. I am asking that you help us in this regard by taking down the old and starting anew with a positive message. My hope is that if you are really on our side you will accept this request.

So Ed, are you proud now? What happened to you? What grown man finds it at all appropriate to first off bring a young man who is not running for office nor is in office into your mudslinging? And, to accuse someone of a drug addiction is despicable. First, know your facts. Second, this is not a topic you joke about. How proud are you to be using such a serious issue the way you are. How proud as a father are you? God forbid your daughters disappoint you. How would you react if it was your child that you are slandering? At this point, even if you issued another apology, you went too far. Regardless of what side anyone is on, everyone agrees that you went too far this time. Good luck repairing your reputation.

I'll take this opportunity to set the record straight. Beginning in the early '70's until my retirement I was involved in managing or funding services to developmentally disabled children and adults. For me to oppose the Miracle League was simply out of the question. What I opposed was the location - hidden in the woods on paved over parkland. The first principle for services for DD kids and adults is integration into the community. East Greenbush has ample resources which other community members use which could have been modified or expanded to handle people with disabilities. This was my argument, and I stand by it. EJ and DeF are apparently not familiar with the Americans with Disabilities Act -curb cuts and all that. I'll watch for them in the parking lot.

Phil was in sales for the company that did the solar installation at the DPW and waste treatment plant. A lot of us thought that was serious conflict of interest and was never justified from a return on investment perspective.

After that there was the sheer folly of putting solar on the fire district building - which are unoccupied 98% of the time.

  101. Well it's been a week into the new INDEPENDENT administration, and I'd say that they (having 4 years ahead of them) deserve a few days to get the agenda running. Just think of what needs to be addressed. The State Comptroller should be doing a "compliance review" each time they come in again to a municipality for an audit. Can you imagine what an EG compliance review would look like? That's only part of what's on the list for the new administration. Previous administrations have done virtually nothing to address what the State Comptroller has previously cited. And then there's the stuff that has gone on under the radar which has contributed to the mess we are in. It's been a free for all around here for a long time. The people finally decided that enough is enough and hired some really smart folks to address the problems. Let's give them a few days. I think they'll do it. If they don't we'll start hollering.

As we all know, politicians who are trusted by the people to do the right thing often disappoint. We may have to give them more than "a few days" though to prioritize their agendas. These are good, smart people but, like any new employee, they need time to acclimate to their jobs, especially Jack. It's only fair to give any brand new employee at least six months to get something of a handle on what needs to be done and then prioritize those items. There are a lot of people who are lying in wait for this new board to fail. They will be "hollering" soon enough. Let's not add to their burden right out of the gait but support them all we can for at least the first six months to a year.

How many years has it been since the one and only certified audit of the Town's financial position? It was UHY a few years ago, and that one had a "qualified opinion." I think we do know that internal controls have been sabotaged for a long time in a number of areas, and the team needs time to get a handle on the realities which they are asked to fix. Good grief.....we've heard it argued right out in the open that plainly illegal activities were legal. The five on the Board have a BIG job ahead, and I hope they take their time to get it right. The way Jack, Tina and Tom designed and executed their campaign is a good sign about how they will govern. It was planned and rational. The opposition got buried because it had forgotten how to base action on facts.

He didn't and he was defeated by a landslid based, in part, on the Langley fiscal irresponsibility. Langley's inability to certify the books produced on his watch has left us in a situation where we may never have audited books for that period. so, to answer Ed's question, I don't ever expect to see such an audit. I do expect to see an audit of the books that George Phillips can certify and it will take at least 18 - 24 months, not two weeks.

It's not the three that one, its this board, a one voice needs to communicate as directly as possible with the public. Keep us updated. be as transparent as they promised and make sure that they debunk any bad or wrong information that is put out by both camps. Both sides need them all to fail and this town, we the tax payers NEED for them to succeed. We need progress reports and we need to be supportive and prepared, because rest assured that they are going to need the collective support of this community to succeed. 1. I don't believe that is a mandatory requirement in our town or any other town. Visions Hotel has been in the books for quite some time now and it's been through the proper planning process (unlike some other projects). What we all have to learn, is some of the rubber stamping that went on in the past happened. Most of which cannot be changed, we just have to accept that and not allow it to happen again. I think we can be rest assured that although we may not agree with everything the new board votes on (how boring would that be if everyone in the world agreed on everything) the new board will ensure proper procedures are followed in our town.

  109. Just came from the town board's pre-board meeting. There was a lot of talk about the financing of the new and improved sewerage plant. CP Matters was trying once again to get a resolution passed to study the rationale for the sewer districts and the rates we're being charged. She said all the emphasis is on paying the bills but not on making sure we are billed correctly. Supr. Conway said "there's no more time for studies" and that were "going to be billed and it's going to hurt." CP Matters wants to make sure everyone is paying their fair share. The supr wants to make sure they have the money to make the payments. The fair share thing aside, he said it's "an emergency" and we have to get the money. CP Matters said you can't jack-up user fees (pardon the pun) to pay for a capital improvement, she said, the money is supposed to come from the tax levy. But Langley wouldn't raise taxes in his election year, so the Comptroller explained that they have to get the money by raising user fees A LOT! No one else on the board was arguing in favor of the study. Right or wrong, it's become nothing but a money grab to pay the bills coming due for the plant. Stay tuned.

In many respects, he used the consultants and attorneys like very expensive town employees, especially in his last year in office. I'm surprised he didn't give the Chazen rep his own office in town hall. Langley justified his being there by signing the checks that paid the consultants and lawyers BIG money to do the job he either wasn't willing or able to do. The town is benefiting every day from him being gone.

For starters a hard rain will be falling on the Langley/DeFruscio administration for the failings of the planning and execution of the WWTP project. DeF just wanted to drive the bus for patronage and had no concept of municipal management. That's what has been plaguing this Town for a long time. Board majorities have been about "jobs" (right Toni)? They have not been about asking the right questions and managing consultants. 1. Hello, Sword. Good to hear from you. You'll get no argument from me. It's just unfortunate that CP Matters has begged for the sewer district and rate study since last spring, each time bringing down the price of it in an effort to get it passed. Langley, Malone, and Mangold (who is both gone from the board AND East Greenbush) repeatedly voted no because of partisan politics. It was governmental malfeasance at its worst. The rep from Delaware Engineering said that if the study had occurred last spring, the town would be able to defend the billing of every resident as both equitable and appropriate. Both Jack and Tom stood up last year in support of the study, which appears again on the January agenda. But at the last meeting, Jack said, "There's no more time for studies." Well, how can that be true if we and our children will be paying this humongous bill for the next 30-40 years!? I must admit that that was a disappointing statement coming from an educator. And when I heard that the cost of the study is peanuts compared to the cost of the plant and that the cost can be wrapped into the financing, I want it even more. I need to know that I'm being billed my fair share of the bill or I won't be okay with it, not at all.

On the issue, I believe that the voters have spoken regarding the importance honesty and openness in government. I further believe that, going forward, the people of the Town of East Greenbush are entitled to answer to the questions regarding the Republican Committee's huge debt, failure to file, and disdain for the regulations that everyone else follows.
To that end, I have filed my complaint and I urge other readers to do the same.

  126. Correct, the BOE doesn't read blogs....it takes at most 5 minutes to type, print, sign, seal and put a stamp on a simple complaint to the BOE. The less people do (blogging doesn't do anything), the less the Republican committee and the usual players get away with "business as usual" in EG. The more complaints helps those of us actually trying to get the BOE to act.

    1. I wouldn't say "blogging doesn't do anything." I wouldn't say that at all.

  127. I have also filed a complaint with the elections board. It was easy peasy to do. I got the impression they will follow up.

  128. Still no sign of the MISSING SIX financial disclosure reports required to be filed by the EG Repub Committee to the state board of elections. As of 1/18/16, the East Greenbush Republican has filed only ONE of the last SEVEN required Financial Disclosure REPORTS and they even filed that ONE form late. What's going on Danny Fiacco and Sean Mulvey?

    1. How about somebody posting a brief draft of what should be sent to the BOE.

    2. Easy, state your name and the financial disclosures the committee failed to submit. Sign your name, seal the envelope and put a stamp on it.
