The Langley Letter

This is Supervisor Langley's letter in today's Advertiser.  Comments are invited.

  1. The title of his article should be E.G. Supervisor Striving To Fake A Difference.

  2. Questions to Supervisor Langley--was his "NO' vote to the resolution allowing residents to comment at ALL public meetings cast to benefit the majority of Town residents? One would say NO to his NO--how can stifling Town residents benefit the majority of residents?
Would Supervisor Langley's 'No" vote cast to allowing residents to submit ethics complaints to the Ethics committee benefit the majority of residents? One would say NO to his NO--especially since he said (paraphrasing) people will submit complaints about him during his campaign.
Maybe these two examples should be addressed in a letter to The Advertiser.

  3. A special Thank You to Ms. Wiese for doing something that not many people in East Greenbush have been able to do: get our Supervisor to respond.

  4. Keith- Thank you for your wonderful Letter to the Editor. However, I must respectfully disagree with you on one point when you write that you "work five days a week." I know for a fact that you work SEVEN days a week, every week. You are always on the job, 24 hours a day, working tirelessly for the benefit of the residents and the businesses of East Greenbush. I and your legions of loyal supporters are lucky to have you as our leader. Thank you so much for your dedicated and selfless service to our Town.

  5. It would have been helpful if Supervisor Langley took the time in his letter to outline to the readers of the Advertiser why he seldom, if ever, explains the reasons behind his votes. As for the Supervisor's Town Budgets. I'd like to hear an explanation from the Supervisor as to how he can propose a Budget without a system of internal financial controls. A Budget without the checks and balances of verified audits and a valid system of internal financial controls is absolutely useless, as Mr. Langley well knows.
It's time for Mr. Langley to stop patting himself on the back and start answering the important questions raised by concerned residents.

  6. I am just curious Mr. Supervisor, how exactly does a 0% tax increase help reduce debt? Keep bragging about your budget that was started with arbitrary numbers, since anything before 12/31/13 is fictitious given there are no records (due to a "broken beyond repair accounting system" that we seem to be ok continuing to use).

How does voting no to enforcing a cell phone policy that is supposed to be already in force benefit the rest of the town when there has been audit-verified cases of workers abusing their cell phone privileges and exceeding their minutes? You, Mr. Supervisor, voted no to this resolution because you were afraid you would upset your DPW workers. You even issued a Supervisors Report that kissed up to DPW (no offense DPW), and this wasn't your first. You are using DPW in your "petty" and pathetic political games. Your job as CFO is not to waste tax payer dollars, yet you voted no to a resolution that would prevent wasting tax payer dollars on town workers using town phones for personal use.

  7. "None of us can make a positive change in this Town by catering to a minority." Good grief, Mr. Langley!!!! Just who was it that brought you that first casino Resolution a year ago last April? Your record on the casino fiasco makes a cruel joke of your words. You secretly conspired with a MINORITY of connected insiders to foist a very destructive initiative on the citizens of this Town. And it cost a whole bunch of us a lot of time, energy and cash. You should be ashamed of yourself.

  8. This is the kind of thing you SHOULD be working on, Mr. Langley.

  9. He also voted "no" twice to CP Matters sewer districts and rate study resolutions. How does that help the majority of people in the town? We have a $14M plant upgrade debt to pay off over the next 30+ years but that doesn't warrant a comprehensive study to figure out the best way to do it? But he's not just denying Ms. Matters her study, he's denying us, the residents, the right to know HOW to pay off that debt as painlessly as possible. By the way, the study would benefit him and his family, too. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. As the Gadfly likes to say, good grief!!!

  10. Are the rumors true, was Eddie G. finally removed as Ethics Chairman?

    1. Yes! At the first meeting of the EB last night, Kathleen Luria was unanimously voted in as Ethics Board Chair. Ed Gilbert did not attend the meeting but they had a quorum, so they voted. Ed Gilbert is still on the EB, just no longer Chair. Ms. Luria has already demonstrated that she will be an excellent Chairperson. She is aptly supported by Cheryl Vallee, Jessica Lansing, and Judy Ehrlich. This, folks, is a good team!

  11. Hey Keith. If you are reading this, would you please tell us how much last month's sewage spill at the WWTP is currently costing the Town's taxpayers. We've heard that the cost is running much higher than was originally estimated.

  12. Hey Gadfly, it's my understanding that the insider who gave the Supervisor the original casino resolution is the same guy who got the illegal sewer connection during the moratorium at Cooper Avenue. So there you go.

At 4:53 p.m. tonite Ed Gilbert officially resigned from the Ethics Board. We can all rest assured that the board will be in very goods hands with the remaining members. The new Chairperson of the EB is Ms. Kathleen Luria. I hope to be able to fill the vacant seat but that may not be possible this year. If not, then hopefully next year.

    1. MAM for someone that resigned as liaison to The Board of Ethics you really seemed more involved than when you were actually the liaison. Just so all are aware Mrs Matters does not "fill the vacant seat" the Town Board does. The last thing the Board of Ethics needs, is you trying to stack it with your own appointees. The current Board is an exceptional group of free thinkers that will ensure the Towns Code of Ethics is followed and will keep a sharp eye out for those try to use the Board to further their own political agenda . Seriously they don't need your "help"

  14. Quite a day boys and girls.... Ed Gilbert resigned. We had almost 1000 "hits" on the Gadfly blog today. The printing of Mr. Langley's Advertiser letter has outstripped a previous record attained by Ray Mooney a couple of years ago. (Sorry Ray.) Doesn't get any better than this.......

    1. Gadfly, records are made to be broken. I am so proud of what leaders like you, Dwight, Jack and others have done. What started as a few gadflies has become a movement for better government, true reform, accountability and responsibility in doing the people's work.

  15. Dear CP Matters: I am a little concerned about the timing of Mr. Gilbert's resignation. I hope he didn't resign because he is getting ready to run for Town Council.

    1. Good morning 8:54. I truly believe that Mr. Langley has enough hurdles to overcome without attempting to put a lightening rod for controversy like Ed Gilbert on the town board. No worries.

      Delete
    2. Dear 8:54, don't forget Ed already tried running for two different offices and failed. His youtube video of lies at the public gaming commission has been seen several hundred times, it will be comical to see him run again.

    3. It might as well be Gilbert. Why would any reasonable person choose to run on a ticket for any political office with Keith Langley and be saddled with the lackluster Langley record of the past 3 and a half years. Can you imagine the responses the Langley ticket will receive from residents when Langley and company start walking door to door asking for people to vote for them?

    4. 9:44 a.m. I can think of two people who said they wanted to work with Langley to "fix" the town, and they now seriously regret it. A Langley/Gilbert/? ticket would be disastrous for the town, might even put us under. Residents who don't want to be bothered with Langley or anyone associated with him, should hang NO LANGLEY signs on their front doors. That's what I'm going to do. I don't want him ringing my bell.
To "I like Langley": The trick will be catching Mr. Langley in his office, especially on a Friday afternoon.

    5. More like he's severing his ties to help Defruscio to do Langley's dirty work come October.

  16. Can I get some of whatever "I like Langley" is on? Stuff must be potent!

  17. It seems to me that a likely reason for Ed Gilbert's resignation from the Ethics Board may be because he, and his boss Keith Langley, lack an ethical compass.

  18. 9:03 PM,
I encourage you to spend some time with Keith Langley. Stop by his office in Town Hall. It's like receiving a pleasant boost of adrenaline coupled with a peaceful, easy feeling.

  19. Dear Like: When I have spoken in private to your "fearless leader" he has been rude, loud, vulgar in the extreme, and ignorant. He interrupted, yelled, and cursed.

My only regret is not taping those "conversations".

  20. I wonder if some well informed follower of town politics might provide a listing of all of Langley's appointments who have come and gone? I know the list is long but I do not follow town politics enough to know the details.

The guy cannot keep a staff. I strongly believe it is because he utterly and completely lacks leadership.

  21. Five positions are appointed to serve at the pleasure of the Town Supervisor, i.e., not needing Town Board approval.

These five positions and Supervisor Langley's appointees (to the best of my knowledge) are as follows:

Deputy Supervisor: Robert Guynup, Ed Gilbert, Mike Poorman, Meaghan Hart

Director of Finance: Laura L. Ingoldsby, Sean Mulvey, Meaghan Hart

Secretary to the Supervisor: Eileen Grant, Denise Corellis, Lisa O’Brien

Bookkeeper: Meaghan Hart, Debra Myers, Suzanne Coyne-Angelo

    Historian: Waldi Cavanaugh, Janet Witbeck

    2. Don't forget that the multi-talented Meaghan Hart served as Secretary before Corellis and after Grant. That means that she has served in 4 out of the 5 positions Langley controls.

    3. Ms. Hart is also the Treasurer of the Friends of Keith Langley political campaign committee.

    4. 11:49 My post was limited to those "appointed to serve at the pleasure of the Town Supervisor, i.e., not needing Town Board approval".

I was replaced by a vote of the Town Board, as were many others.

  26. Is Jack Conway going to recoup the money that Toni Murphy and Rick McCabe obtained ILLEGALY from the EG1st Taxpayer

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Jack Conway, Tierney, and Grant should demand that the money Murphy and McCabe be repaid and Ms. Murphy should be exposed publically for her untrustworthy behavior. This should be a campaign promise made by these candidates.

    2. @ 8:41 PM- I'm not totally sold on MAM as a real reformer. The Town needs all three: Conway, Tierney and Grant.

      Delete
  28. The new EG1st team along with Council Person Matters should also recoup the hundreds of thousands of dollars that McCabe doled out to all his cronies. Langley wouldn't do it.

    ReplyDelete
  29. If The EG1st group wants to be recognized as genuine they must start by recouping ALL the stipend money and illegal longevity/sick pay that McCabe gave to his friends. Eg1st needs to make an example out of Toni Murphy who is an elected official and Stop that group once and for all. We can't have elected officials receiving money illegally and the trying to run for reelection. That's just plain wrong.

  30. I can't wait until I go out today and find out what all the excitement is about ! I think they will be looking at correcting a lot more than just the stipends. Get those snakes out of the wood pile once and for all!
