Went to a party tonight - a thank you party for East Greenbush First volunteers. Met some folks I've never met before. A house full in a very big house. What an experience!! We made some history in this Town. What was it......49% in a three-way Supe race? The Reps said that EG1st was "not a factor." The Dems cannot be quoted. The machines never saw the people coming. They believed their own press releases.
McCabe and Langley made the exact same mistakes. Disregarded the will of people. Pandered to their friends and a few rich EG families. Both were arrogant, dismissive of the plain old good folks.
ReplyDeleteIn the end showing us that the political parties are totally corrupt financially, morally,, ethically and in every decent manner possible created the opening for the good folks to exert themselves and throw the bums out.
It won't be an easy job. Jack Tina and Tom will need our support. Luckily, constructive critizsm will be considered helpful in their administration.
ReplyDeleteToo bad that even as taxes were going up, up, up and Columbia Turnpike was wasting away year after year, it took something the magnitude of a big box gambling casino to get people all the way to the end of their ropes. What if the casino never happened? Would Langley or DVW and their followers have won again for another four years of lackluster leadership? I wonder. Moving on, the casino did happen so hooray for East Greenbush and pass the potatoes but it would be unwise to assume that the new board will function in complete cooperation and harmony all the time like a well oiled machine. Being one of five people who makes the decisions for an entire town carries with it an enormous amount of responsibility. The pressure is just as enormous as everybody wants and needs something. Plus the new board is charged with, among about 500 other things, taking us from no bond status to an A+ rating and with turning Columbia Turnpike into another Rt 4, none of which will be easy. I'm just saying better days are definitely coming but we might want to ease up on the gloating. I'm not saying it's not well deserved but it is bad form and we're supposed to be better than the people who just got stomped and kicked to the curb.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, it's not the candidates gloating. But, people like Don who have been fighting alone for years - they have every right to gloat after dealing with this garbage for so long and finally being able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
ReplyDeleteWhoa! Don hasn't been fighting alone. It just seems that way because of this very public blog but many, many voices have joined his to get us where we are today. I will say that he never quit on the quest for justice and change. He can definitely be thought of as a leader and I think he gave others the courage to fight. He's a good man. We need more like him for sure.
DeleteI said "people like Don", I know he wasn't alone and I thank him and the rest for fighting the good fight and not giving up. The knowledge they shared helped the army we have now.
DeleteLangley can't be gone quick enough. He now wants to hand out some parting gifts to some more favored developers at his hastily scheduled "Special" Town Board Meeting on Tuesday at 4pm at Town Hall. If you get a chance, stop by Town Hall and see first hand why Supervisor Keith only got 24% of the vote on November 3rd.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to Jack, Tina and Tom over the next four years. It going to take a lot of work to clean up the mess Keith Langley has left all of us. Thank goodness they are up to it.
10:26 a.m. You might be mistaken about the impetus for the special meeting on Tuesday but, yes, do stop by regardless and prepare to be surprised.
DeleteThe reform movement, and the people behind it, have been vilified, ridiculed and attacked for a number of years. The questions we were asking were connected to very valid concerns.
ReplyDeleteLangley sought, on many levels, to suppress open discussion and debate. So did McCabe. The $500,000 complete waste of taxpayer money to let a few people retire early was done in all manner of crazy meetings. That's $500,000.
Langley was so stunningly ignorant that we, the people, had to pay $60,000 to settle a equal employment complaint because he made stupid comments.
The complete list could go on for pages.
McCabe and Langley lacked a moral compass. Jack, Tom and Tina have values, beliefs and principles McCabe and Langley are utterly clueless about.
Things will be dramatically better when Langley officially is gone. He is gone now and we, the people, are paying him for doing what he has done from day 1 - NOTHING.
Stopping to acknowledge the many people who made enormous contributions to EG1st and to enjoy ourselves is certainly not gloating, it is a part of any successful endeavor to celebrate success.
ReplyDeleteThe Gadfly can proclaim his Saturday night activities on his blog as he pleases. His readers can enjoy it or not.as they please.
I had fun at the party, too, Gadfly!
I'm betting you that Langley still doesn't know why he lost. That's the sad part. No self-awareness. I hear certain folks are clambering for jobs. Are they submitting resumes? My hope is that only qualified people are considered and no one from the McCabe or Langley regimes will be held over unless they are super clean of any graft - like taking stipends, etc. I hope the lawyers hired know the law and are not party hacks. Not one of us should rest. In order to keep this town free from graft, corruption and special interests we must be ever vigilant and stand behind EG1st. A little pat on the back is due - but on Monday it's get back to work. I know JTT will work endlessly to make East Greenbush the great place we know it can be.
ReplyDeleteGreat people helped bring attention to the issues in the town and helped with the EG1st election, glad that they were recognized!
ReplyDeleteThe effort to achieve reform in our little berg has been shared by many. And the first anniversary of one of the most significant benchmarks is coming up on December 17th. Here's Chris Churchill's article in the TU from December 17th, 2014. We've come a long way!!

Is it just me, or is anyone else suspicious of Supervisor Langley's motives behind scheduling a Special Town Board meeting for 4pm on a Tuesday afternoon? Especially since the notice on the Town's website reads: "...The East Greenbush Town Board will be meeting... in regards to the Planned Development District (PDD)... and ANY OTHER URGENT BUSINESS (emphasis added) that is presented to the Board."
ReplyDeleteOver the past four Langley years, there has certainly been a disconnect between what Keith Langley considers to be URGENT BUSINESS and what is beneficial to our Town.
Does "the Resolution is the Resolution" ring any bells?
Actually, Langley didn't call the meeting, Malone called it because of his outrage that the Witbeck PDD failed. "And any other urgent business" is just standard language in the request. Langley will likely not show. The question is, will MAM show? She seemed pretty sure of her no vote at the board meeting.
Delete12:41pm, Doesn't it require two Town Board Members to call for a special meeting? If so, would you happen to know who the second board member was?
DeleteSaw this on the EGM blog:
ReplyDelete"You’re Not In Kansas (East Greenbush) Anymore.
November 18, 2015
By Ed Gilbert"
After the schlacking they took on 11/3, Mr. Ed isn't hiding or denying his involvement with this blog anymore. Looks like he was the culprit all along. Right, Ed? What about all the lying and denying that you and Langley had anything to do with it? Now that the election is over, it looks like you are now claiming responsibility for it. Bold move. We now KNOW you're the guy behind the worst excuse for a blog in EG history. Congratulations.
12:41-
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info. Unfortunately, as we have sadly experienced, there is no such thing as "standard language" as far as our TB goes. They love to fit all sorts of exceptions into "standard language." Thankfully that will all end in January when Jack, Tina and Tom officially take the oath of office.
@12:41. Langley is responsible for setting the date and time of the special meeting. 4pm is convenient for him, but not so convenient for most others.
ReplyDeleteTaking stock.....McCabe couldn't figure out how he lost 4 years ago. And he's still angry. Langley didn't understand why he won 4 years ago. And now he's angry that he lost this time. I wonder if Langley, DVW, Smyth, Stenson, Tibbits and Lenartz understand what happened this time around. Reality testing is a key to successful living. Hans Christian Anderson told a great tale with "The Emperor's New Clothes."
ReplyDeleteGadfly, the thank you party was amazing last Saturday night. Every event that The EG 1st Candidates held brought new faces to the table. I was talking to a gal who first met the candidates at the Meet The Candidates Forum. She came with her husband and told me, "I was so impressed with the candidates that night, that I offered to help in anyway I could." Really, everyone has a story to tell and I've hard many. The neat thing about the evening to me was, it appeared more like a family coming together and enjoying each other's company. Sure there were political discussions, but many weren't. It was a fun evening of reflection, getting to know each other better, and let's keep connected. Which I know we surely will. Ed, we were here all along. You chose to walk a different path, where the ground was hard, full of rocky places, and thorny bushes.
ReplyDeleteWell said Bonnie. The machines and their gatekeepers thought they had Town operations all sewed up, admitting loyalists to the inner circle. But "pride goeth before a fall." All ya gotta do is fix zoning and planning. There's a new constituency now which will insist on honest and transparent government.
ReplyDeleteAs many of us cannot make the 4 o'clock hour meeting time, are there any reports as to the outcome of today's special meeting of the town board?
ReplyDeleteIt lasted 4 minutes! This involved the pledge, public speaking, the re vote on the pdd and Deb D's reasoning for change on vote. MAM was not there. Passed 3-0.
ReplyDeleteIt's Thanksgiving morning, and I'm thankful for the new friends I've made through Save East Greenbush & East Greenbush First -- intelligent, caring individuals who are unafraid to stand up for what they believe is right. There's a sense of community happening in our town. People are willing to give a little bit of time, talent or money to work towards a common goal. And now, with a new Town Board in 2016, we can start rebuilding our town for the good of all -- not just for the good of a select few. Much to be thankful for, much work still to be done. Wishing you all a joyous holiday with family and friends!
