The "Clean Break" Ballot

Here's the sample ballot for November 3rd.  EG1st is on Row I at the bottom.  There are literally "millions" of reasons not to return either major party "machine" to power in East Greenbush.  Those millions are out of our pockets and into theirs.  Time to put a stop to the sleaze and the inside deals and the nepotism and the patronage and the favoritism.  Time for some honest and transparent government.  Take a look at the ballot and remember it.  Some of the reasons for voting EG1st are in the following link and in the letters from yesterday's Advertiser.

  1. Gadfly, thanks for posting all this good stuff. Regarding the sample ballot, folks can feel comfortable bringing a copy of the ballot into the booth for reference. It is allowed and might be convenient for some people. They can copy it from here or from East Greenbush First on Facebook.

  2. The Town of East Greenbush certainly needs a "clean break" from the political parties. I once again checked the NYS Board of Elections Website to see if the required Financial Disclosure Statements were submitted by the East Greenbush Republican Committee. They have not. The East Greenbush Republicans have refused to file the last three Financial Disclosure Statements. What are they trying to hide?
What say you East Greenbush Republicans? Or more specifically, What say you, EG Republican Party Treasurer, Sean Mulvey?

  3. That's a fine-looking ballot, and it's so easy to find EG1st's candidates -- just head straight for the bottom, bypassing all the same-old candidates running on multiple party lines in an attempt to gather more votes. It's time for that little trick to backfire (hey, I'm starting to sound just like my friend The Gadfly!). "Bottoms up" on November 3rd, fellow voters! And may the best trio win.

  4. The EG money pit is MORE than a bit worrisome. I live on a fixed income so I really need to know what my bill will be but I also don't want to know. It's a conundrum. If the plant will be done next month, how come we don't know what our bill will be? Will that be sprung on us too like the casino?

    1. 7:25 p.m. That's because Pete Stenson and Dave VanWormer run Talks but they don't want to be tagged with the viciousness of it while they're running for office...suddenly they're angels? In truth, DVW is one of the angriest, most bitter former town employees going. He's bitter about losing his little fiefdom at the highway garage with only a year to go before he's eligible for a town pension (arghhh!) If DVW wins, it will be the same thing as putting his former brother-in-law Rick McCabe back in office. McCabe is licking his chops over the prospect of becoming defacto supervisor. It's Halloween-scary to think that we're THIS close to seeing McCabe return to town hall as Deputy Supervisor. Of course, Langley has been hosting McCabe in his office since he was elected in 2012, which is something that has baffled good republicans for years now. Langley was/is another inexperienced, political neophyte who couldn't believe it actually happened when he won, so he used the guy he defeated (huh?) like a mentor...brilliant (not!). Now, the guy who brought us Keith Langley (i.e. C.DeF) is trying to get his future son-in-law (Trent Tibbits) installed on the town board. Can anyone see C.DeF in a high-paying town job if Keith, Trent and Larry win? It's a fiasco. Folks, whether it's Langley or VanWormer elected on 11/3, the town cannot take four more years of politics in place of leadership. That's why we have to band together and vote for Jack Conway for supervisor. I'm voting for Jack for all the reasons mentioned on their website (EG1st.org). And while I'm at it, I'll vote for Tina Tierney and Tom Grant, too. They will be a loud and persistent voice FOR the people. We desperately need intelligent, experienced, PROFESSIONAL people like Jack, Tina and Tom on the town board. Please MARK YOUR CALENDAR on November 3 and VOTE!

  6. Words of encouragement for EG1st candidates to keep up the good work!!! Neighbors have received their message as well as guidance on how to find their spots on the ballot - sounds simple but incredibly important so folks REMEMBER where to vote. Need to get so many people out to vote its incredible - the political parties will make a huge push to get their connected friends out as they NEED power to continue controlling this town and their finances. Interesting that Hart and Fiacco properties have building violations that aren't being addressed by the Langley administration and they are funding his campaign??? Even Donald Trump acknowledged that you give money to Politicians so you can call them for favors later. Langley looks to be doing favors NOW to collect cash now. Wonder why TU hasn't looked into the lack of campaign fillings. Same old story with Langley - just "trust" him that the finances are fine... Anyway, make sure you talk to your friends and family to vote EG1st and that they talk to their friends and family and that they talk to their friends and family. Need to grow the EG1st family tree and once and for all put the Town of East Greenbush first and establish a true Democracy.

  9. Has any one FOIL'd the Emergency Order? According to NY Code - Section 24: Local state of emergency; local emergency orders by chief executive (Google it) the emergency order automatically ends after 5 days. Reading the law as well as this article: INFORMATION FOR LOCAL CHIEF EXECUTIVES REGARDING
DECLARING A STATE OF EMERGENCY AND ISSUING EMERGENCY
ORDERS I question whether it was a legal declaration anyway. According to legal guidance provided by Department of State, the emergency should have been declared to "protect public safety" yet our treatment plant has overflowed into the river numerous times the past ten years with no such declaration (as does Rensselaer, Troy, Albany, Mechanicville, etc.). It also states "A local state of emergency can be issued only when a situation exists that has or will place the public at risk and that will require extraordinary measures for proper protection" note the word AND here which is important. I don't believe the Terriblevisors lack of personal skills to work with the Town Board meets the definition of extraordinary measures. This "emergency" simply needed to be a change of contract with the contractor already on site to stabilize the construction work (probably part of their contract already). Something does smell right here (like usual). And no, I cannot take this to the proper authorities (sorry) but I'm doing my part to show someone that hopefully has no ramifications having their name attached to a complaint the possible path to make this all right. Lets put EG 1st!!!!!!!

    2. It's there alright. Under City of Rensselaer, see # 45. A candidate for elective office should have to be in good standing with the law. If he isn't current on his taxes, how can he require others to be in his role as supervisor? This is just more dirt on Mr. Van WORM er. There's plenty more where that came from.

    7. Mr. VanWormer, you have some big nerve running for town supervisor. Is that the extent to which you care about your home town? EG has SERIOUS, COMPLICATED problems on many levels, mostly financial. Do you really think YOU are the man to solve these problems? You and your ilk helped a ton to create the problems, certainly not to solve them. Do you really think anyone believes your intention isn't to bring back Rick McCabe and the dem machine business as usual partisan-insider shenanigans? WHAT in your background do you think qualifies you anymore than Langley to run a town of over 16,000 people? Name one thing. If your party cared a wit about EG, they would have run Andrea Smyth for supervisor, certainly not you.

  14. For years people have endured personal attacks on all of the blogs. This year is the same. Some people feel it is necessary to attack and try to embarrass anyone that they disagree with.

What is wrong with supporting your candidate in a positive and respectful manner instead of all of the nasty negatives that has gone along with the politics in this town? It truly sickens me to see how people behave, what they post, and that they do it under of Anonymous. It surprises me that nobody has come forward to condemn the way some people think that if they attack others and put their personal information on a blog, that it helps their candidate. Let me tell you - it turns more people off than you think Vote for who you choose but don''t try to destroy someone else to get your candidate elected.

The Gadfly supports Jack, Tina, and Tom - everyone knows that and they are all good people. If they win, I'm willing to bet it's because people like their ideas and visions - and that is how they want to win - not by slandering their opponents. If they lose, I am equally sure that they will congratulate whoever wins and offer their support and help. That's the way it should be!

    1. I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one, Joe. The information put on the Gadfly was no more anonymous than when it was posted on the Rensselaer County website, the Troy Record or the TU - from which it was taken. Nobody here is sneaking around in a trench coat taking pictures at night of nefarious behavior. We reported what our government reported. That's not slander or libel. And I didn't put it up until I had confirmed the material on the web and in the paper. So nobody snuck around to put personal information on a blog.

This is an important election in East Greenbush. Hillary's e-mails are fair game on the national scene. In larger elections, candidates publish their tax returns. How somebody has performed in business activities has some importance related to how they would perform with the fiduciary responsibilities which come with municipal office. And we've had a lot of irresponsibility in that department - stipends, Plat approvals, road paving and illegal benefits and all that.

Absolutely right, Gadfly. All's fair in love and war and when it comes to elections, especially in East Greenbush, it's war. Why does it have to be that way? Because you have good intentioned candidates vs bad intentioned candidates running for office. You have the old style, machine insider-politics crowd like Langley and VanWormer who are looking out for themselves vs EG1st candidates who reject their blind-eye approach to the problems that are turning EG into a slum one development project at a time. Your holier than thou attitude is touching, Joe, but you hang with the Dem insiders and you benefited from it when they were in office. I could be wrong about this but my guess is that you will vote for DVW & company on 11/3. This town has suffered enough at the hands of the selfish insiders who seek to suck it dry for their own personal enrichment and gain. We're entitled to be defensive and even a little bitter, too. Sorry if you disagree.
By the way, Talks is the king of disparaging blogs in EG. It's been neutered of late only because two of its primary administrators are campaigning for office.

  19. The two comments above display some funny things about "financial disclosure." The County of Rensselaer requires both. With the former (tax liability) shorts are tied in knots when the disclosure is made. With the latter (election contributions) shorts are tied in knots when the disclosure is not made. Go figure. The point its that both disclosures are required by the law. Wasn't financial disclosure the issue that derailed the Ethics Code for so long? Seems to me you can't talk about transparency and accountability without being open and forthcoming about money. The Dems and EG1st should be officially complaining to the Board of Elections about the absence of the Rep reports. There are sanctions which should be sought to force compliance.

  22. Financial disclosure: The State requires employees of a certain grade level and above file a financial disclosure form every year. I know because I had to fill one out. Assets and Liabilities. Both.
Joe I agree with you that politics should be conducted without personal attacks based on rumor, innuendo or just plain lies. Pointing out a truth that has already been published on a government website and in a newspaper is not that.
There were certain lies about other candidates' personal lives that have been planted by political operatives in the past and that is just plain wrong.
I believe it is important to know how someone who will be the future CFO of this town conducts their financial business. That is it. If we had the Ethics Law that Jack wanted - with a financial disclosure component - we wouldn't be having this conversation. With the state of the Town's finances in the mess they are in - knowing this information is more important than ever.

  28. Enough already with the tax lien. The focus should remain on the EG Rep. Committee's refusal to file their Election Financial Disclosure Reports. This is an issue directly related to the November 3rd Election. Sean Mulvey needs to answer why he as the GOP Treasurer has refused to file these forms. 31. I've been thinking all along that the reason the Republican Committee won't file its financials is that they don't want to reveal who has been bankrolling their campaign, like Feathers and the County fat cats. But maybe it's just the opposite reason. The administration has done such a lousy job at governing, maybe DeFruscio and company have been left high and dry by the faithful, and they don't want anybody to know it. The claim of massive debt reduction in the face of Moodys move of EG to the watch list and then off the rating scale makes the current government operation a big joke. Contributing money to that operation would be down right foolish.

  32. So, we have on the Republican front a failed party that has brought our town to a below junk bond status that includes Keith Langley (that should be enough), as well as Larry Lenartz who is behind on taxes. Our Democratic committee includes a man who would be our CFO who was also delinquent on our taxes. Add to all of this a Republican Committee who has time after time failed to file their required financial disclosures and who consistently run on a deficit of thousands of dollars. Yet Mr. Gilbert doesn't think this town needs change, he couldn't be more wrong. Enough is enough.

  33. Word out is that CDeF was calling around begging for good repubs to come to the fundraiser last nite. Apparently, the cost of the primary broke the bank and the repubs are broke from this point forward. It's clear that the backers they anticipated don't have their backs and that Langley stands a good chance of losing. However, if Dave VanWormer wins on Nov 3rd, it will be the residents who are the real losers. Let's remember how Langley won in the first place. It was the junk bond status, stipends, and crushing debt under former supervisor Rick McCabe that enabled Keith Langley to slip by him and win the election. If DVW wins, it will be the same as re-electing Rick McCabe. This could break the town's bank as it is close to the breaking point now under "the resolution is the resolution" Langley. Because of the lousy choices on both sides of the aisle, a new path for the town must be forged. Please, please, please VOTE for Jack, Tina and Tom on election day, Tuesday, November 3rd. Gadfly, you have posted two possibilities why the EG Republican party has failed to file required financial disclosure statments: 1 they don't want the public to know who gave them money; 2 they have been unsuccessful at raising money and would be embarrassed to disclose that. There is a third possibility: just plain incompetent.

While there is ample evidence that money has been spent by the Republicans (they said so themselves in the Advertiser) and ample evidence that money is being collected (2 recent fundraisers) they have not filed as required and, therefore, the competence and judgement of the candidates, Langley, Engel, Lenartz, Tibbits and Carlock must be questioned.

  36. The sad thing is that had Langley just been reasonable, he would have been able to work with Deb and MA. Instead, he pulled the dictator number on them and has steadfastly refused to relent ever since. Now, Langley is going to try this failed behavior again on Larry Lenartz and young Mr. Tibbitts, who is 20-something years old and brand, spanking new to politics. Lenartz is older and hopefully, if he wins, he will have the courage and strength to be his own man. Tibbitts is not only young, he is the fiance of CDeF's daughter. This puts us in grave danger of him following Langley's lead no matter what. Casino, Trent? Sure, Keith, whatever you want!
The Langley/Lenartz/Tibbitts trio would be detrimental to the town.

You are absolutely right! That is why the third party in EG (eg1st.org) should be considered not just by you, but by every other voter in this town.

It is time to clean up EG!!!

  40. I'm shocked the Advertiser allowed Defruscio back...check out Truth for this weeks EG politics in the Advertiser. It's comical Langley band keeps bragging about how he miraculously reduced our town's debt to under $400k (when in reality it's in the millions) and he kept taxes under the tax cap. Um, pretty sure the "tax cap" wasn't his idea!!!!

  41. 10:09 p.m. As soon as I read the word "irrefutable," I knew CDeF didn't write that article. Look it up, Chris.
It's also noteworthy that ONLY Ed Gilbert has written to the Advertiser thus far to support his hero Keith Langley. Suddenly, CDeF rears up as could be expected but where are the other supporters? Someone? Anyone? Keith is like the Maytag repairman sitting alone waiting for someone to call. I also heard his fundraiser last night got him half a small parking lot of supporters. It's over, Keith.
